Jazz & Blues Report
March/April 2002 issue 256
This is the latest release from the winner of the 2001 L.A. Music Awards, Blues Artist of the Year. Recorded at The Courthouse in Riverside, California featuring Peach on guitar & vocals with Joey Delgado on guitar, Paulie Cerra on saxophone/vocals, Hardy Eason on keyboards, bassist Eric T. Ward and Maria Martinez on drums. The disc is a nice collection of original and classic blues tunes. Kicking off with a nice treatment of 'Muddy Water' featuring a very soulful B3 solo by Hardy Eason. 'Struttin' Joey D' is a up shuffle featuring Joey Delgado of the L.A. based The Delgado Brothers. With Peach spinning a humorous narrative over some very Lucille like ES-335 guitar solos...my favorite track. Included on the disc is a live version of 'The Cure For You', the title cut from her previous disc. A sultry, oops-I'm in love song, this is a nice piece of lyrical work and musical changes encompassing a fine horn solo by Paulie Cerra. Drummer Maria Martinez lays down a very strong foundation upon which this very solid band is built. My only criticism of the disc is there was a little too much gate on the snare and not enough audience in the mix. It's clear the band had a good time and you will too.
